Crested Butte Mountain Guides has started our winter season in earnest with all the snow helping us have truly epic and ideal conditions for instructing on our AIARE Avalanche Courses.

Avy 1 students

So far, we have run a full gamut of courses already in December with, 2- Level 1 Avalanche Courses, 1- Level 2 Avalanche Course, an Avalanche Refresher Course, and just today had to restrict our Level 1 Avalanche HUT Course to town limits, due to so much snow and the inability to safely get in and out of the hut in Gothic, CO.

Backcountry Ski Touring & Split-Boarding is also prime right now, as the warm and wet snow has been the cause for high avalanche danger, but our extensive backyard offers us almost unlimited terrain potential from which to choose from, so as to ensure great powder skiing & riding in safe conditions under the watchful eye of our trained and experienced guides.

Level 2 Avalanche Course Students

We are also busy taking bookings and ski guiding for the newly opened CS Irwin snowcat skiing operation, as they have been operating 1 cat of 10 skiers max a day starting on Decemebr 15th.

Our NEW Backcountry PowderCamp, from Feb 21-25, 2011 is filling up fast, with 5-days of awesome Crested Butte backcountry powder-skiing coupled with nights in our charming mountain town. As are our other camps and ski expeditions such as: Alaska Ski Mountaineering, Colorado Spring Ski Mountaineering, and European Haute Route Ski Tour trips, so make sure to get in on these trips this year as the snow is proving to be epic all over, not just in Crested Butte.

Looks like we’ll be busy through the end of 2010, teaching more Avalanche Courses, guiding incredible backcountry ski and split-boarding tours, and doing lots and lots of shovelling….

CBMG Winter Guides’ Training 2010…

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

This year Crested Butte Mountain Guides got to do something really special on our Guides’ Training, by working with local ski resort, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, in allowing us access to our summer climbing terrain on the ‘Guides Ridge’, for an all-staff alpine mixed conditions climb of this favorite route.

It was an awesome alpine climbing experience, and we hope CBMR will continue to work with us in allowing Crested Butte Mountain Guides to begin to offer this to our guests as another guided mountain experience in our product offerings, as it surely will not disappoint.

Thanks to the entire Crested Butte Mountain Guides Staff  for a great 2-days of trainings, and to Jeff Banks (IFMGA/UIAGM Guide) for helping us in running the technical skills aspects of the training. Looking forward to an awesome winter season.
